Memorial Service for Bishop Michael Yeung

The beloved Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung of Hong Kong passed away in peace on 3 January, 2019. The school held a memorial service on 11 January to commemorate Bishop Yeung and show our gratitude towards him.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Tung first introduced the life of Bishop Yeung. Bishop Yeung was a well-educated person, who held a Bachelor of Theology, a Master of Communication and Education, and a Doctor of Social Science. He used to be the Director of the Church and the Deputy Bishop of the Catholic Diocese. In 2017, he was appointed the Bishop of Hong Kong. During his term, Bishop Yeung actively led the Diocese to move forward and especially cared for the poor and the weak.

After the introduction, Mrs. Fung explained how Bishop Yeung showed concern for the poor and young through playing videos. "Year of Youth" was the anniversary theme of the Diocese in 2018. Bishop Yeung invited people to pay attention to the development of the young herdsmen. He also rapidly participated in youth activities, listened to teenagers’ demands, and utilized social media to attract the youth. In order to encourage young people to practice their beliefs, the theme of the Diocese of 2019 was set as "Practice, Belief, Youth" to promote faith, demonstrate love, care for the poor, and safeguard the weak through establishing authentic interpersonal relationships among the youth.

The teachers and students then led all the students to pray for Bishop Yeung. We prayed to God for accepting the soul of the dead, and to let them enjoy the happiness of heaven as soon as possible. We also prayed that we can follow the testimony of Bishop Yeung to care about the poor and weak, abandon the indifference and spread love in the society. During the memorial service, the Catholic students presented candles to Bishop Yeung. Finally, the ceremony ended with the song "Amazing Grace”, in the hope that the soul can be saved through the mercy of God.
